The in person Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course, designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of poor mental health and provide support on a first aid basis.
In the same ways as learning physical first aid, MHFA teaches learners how to recognise those crucial warning signs of poor mental health and feel confident to guide someone to appropriate support.
Lancashire Mind's Adult MHFA offer is unique in that all learners will receive a 'Next Steps' guide to support your organisation in ensuring your MHFA offer is sustainable, supports best practice, considers your internal policies and procedures. If you are a community member this guide will support you to provide best practice whilst working as an MHFA'er. You will learn:
Learners who can show the required awareness of Mental Health Frist Aid will receive a certificate and can apply to be Orange Button holders. The Orange Button holder scheme identifies people in Lancashire and South Cumbria who have passed suicide prevention training and are willing to be approached by members of the general public to provide information or signposting related to suicide prevention.
This course is taught in person over consecutive sessions and will consist of instructor led learning. The programme is supported by an official MHFA manual, ALGEE toolkit card and MHFA workbook. Learners will be registered on MHFA England's learner platform and may receive emails from MHFA England to support them in their role. The programme is led by an MHFA England Licensed Instructor and requires interaction from learners.
